The design process

Getting started
First up will be a meeting to discuss your project and review the space. As well as a face-to-face chat so we can learn more about you and what you would like to achieve with the design, you will be provided with a questionnaire to really make sure that all your needs and expectations are captured.

The proposal
Following this, you will receive a design brief summarising the project needs and intended approach. You’ll also receive projected costings for the initial designs along with terms and conditions so that everything is clear and in writing.

Project kick off!
If you’re happy to go ahead with a design, there will need to be a site survey and site analysis to fully understand the space. It will cover site aspect, views, soil conditions, drainage, existing features and any other issues that will inform the design. For larger or complex spaces, a survey by an independent surveyor will be commissioned.

The big concept
You’ll receive a mood board which will convey the intended look and feel of the garden and initial concept design based on the brief for your garden. This will be for you to sign-off when happy, subject to a couple of rounds of revisions.

The specifics
When you are happy with the concept design, a final plan is produced showing details of materials and features to be used. Detailed specifications and construction drawings will also be provided for the appointed contractor to deliver the build as per the intended design.

Time for the build
With the final design in place, it’s time to make it a reality! You may wish to engage a contractor for your project yourself or Creatures & Folk can help you obtain three quotes from reputable landscapers. We can also provide a project overseeing service with an agreed number of site inspections to make sure that the construction follows the agreed design and specification, and that the work is carried out to exacting professional standards.

Trees and plants
Choosing suitable plants that are going to thrive in your soil, work well together and provide interest all year round is a tricky business. We provide a planting design service to help you achieve this.
Planting plans are produced showing the location and spacing of all plants selected for the garden, and a plant schedule which lists the sizes and quantities for costing and ordering. You may wish to source the plants and plant them yourself, to use your own gardener or you may commission Creatures & Folk to do this for you.

And we’re done?
Nearly. Every garden needs some level of maintenance and the beauty of trees and plants is seeing them evolve. To help you look after your new garden, maintenance schedules with advice outlining the best care for your plants over the year can be provided.
For smaller projects, Creatures and Folk can arrange a number of or follow up hands-on maintenance visits to make sure your garden is kept looking its beautiful best.
